Undergraduate Admissions

Non-Degree Student

Non-Degree students are individuals who intend on taking courses over multiple terms, but do not intend to seek a particular degree.

  • Example: A non-degree student may be interested in taking a course or two per semester for personal growth, but does not intend to pursue a degree program or designated major.

To be considered for admission as a Non-Degree Student:

  • Complete a Non-Degree Seeking Student Application
    Applications will be available mid-Fall.
  • Submit a $50 non-refundable application fee
  • Submit College transcripts. (Unofficial records will be considered).
  • If fewer than 30 semester hours of college coursework have been completed, the applicant also must submit a high school transcript and SAT or ACT scores (unless the applicant has been out of high school three years or more).

Visiting Student

Visiting students are students who wish to enroll at UMBC for only one term, such as the summer or winter session.

  • Example: Visiting students typically attend another college or university and want to earn specific course credits at UMBC that will transfer back to their home institution.

To be considered for admission as a Visiting Student:

  • Complete a Non-Degree Seeking Student Application
    Apply Online
  • On question #10, choose the semester for admission and check "YES" indicating “term only” (visiting student) admission.
  • Submit a $50 non-refundable application fee
  • While transcripts are not required for visiting student admission, some instructors may request an unofficial transcript if the course has pre- or co-requisite requirements.
