Transfer Student Alliance

The Transfer Student Alliance (TSA) offers eligible students who intend to earn their bachelor’s degree at UMBC upon completion of their associate’s degree at Anne Arundel Community College, The Community College of Baltimore County, Howard Community College, Montgomery College or Prince George’s Community College the opportunity to benefit from joint programmatic efforts, shared resources and other privileges while still enrolled at AACC, CCBC, HCC, MC or PGCC. Upon initiation of transfer to UMBC, eligible students may be guaranteed admission, scholarship, and housing.


Steps to Earn Your Bachelor's Degree at UMBC through TSA

  • Enroll at AACC, CCBC, HCC, MC, or PGCC with intent to earn an associate’s degree
  • Complete 12 to 35 college credits at AACC, CCBC, HCC, MC, or PGCC
  • Earn a cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Apply to the TSA Program
  • Receive admittance into the TSA Program

Pre-UMBC TSA Benefits

  • Access to UMBC/UMBC at Universities at Shady Grove facilities and campus services including the library and computer labs
  • Participation in student activities, including cultural and recreational opportunities
  • Concurrent enrollment at a 25% tuition discount for one UMBC course per term (not to exceed a total of three discounted courses)

Apply to UMBC ($50 transfer application fee waiver)

  • Fall Admission (March 1 - Priority Deadline)
  • Spring Admission (October 15 - Priority Deadline)

Requirements for TSA Benefits at UMBC

  • Minimum 3.5 composite-GPA at time of application to UMBC (calculated based on coursework at all institutions attended)
  • Completion of an associate’s degree within four years of admittance into the TSA Program
  • Enrollment at UMBC/UMBC at the Universities at Shady Grove within one year of completion of the Associate’s degree
  • Submit final transcript indicating an earned Associate’s degree from AACC, CCBC, HCC, MC, or PGCC


TSA Benefits at UMBC

  • Guaranteed transfer admissions to UMBC (Transfer Application required)
  • Guaranteed on-campus housing upon initial matriculation at UMBC’s main campus (housing application required, eligible students may re-contract for housing for subsequent years of study, per the established deadlines of the UMBC Office of Residential Life)
  • $1500 merit scholarship for each of two years of full-time study (award can be accepted with other UMBC merit award offers)
  • Priority advising and registration on designated New Student Orientation
