Undergraduate Admissions

Community College Transfer Coordinators and Faculty

Each year UMBC welcomes more than 1,600 transfer students to campus, the majority of them from two-year colleges in Maryland. Some of the most popular programs for transfers include biological sciences, computer science, information systems, psychology, social work, and visual arts. In total, UMBC has 48 majors, 38 minors, and 25 certificate programs from which to choose.

UMBC recognizes that the needs of transferring students are different from those of first-year applicants. We hope the information gathered on this page helps answer your questions.

See the Transfer Resource Page.

Transfer Credit Evaluation

Newly admitted transfer students receive a detailed transfer credit evaluation of all previous college-level course work. To begin the academic planning process early, students transferring from Maryland community colleges are encouraged to utilize ARTSYS to ascertain the transferability of any Maryland community college course to UMBC.

Shady Grove Center

UMBC offers eligible transfer students the opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree in history, political science, psychology, or social work at Shady Grove. Students spend the first two years at a community college and the final two years at the Shady Grove Center. For more information on applying to the UMBC - Shady Grove program, visit www.umbc.edu/shadygrove.
