The UMBC Honors College is a special option for students seeking a community of learners for whom the quest for knowledge is its own reward. Honors College students gain the enlightened perspective that comes with the exploration of challenging ideas from history, philosophy, art, science and technology. Because admission to the Honors College is selective (about 125 students are admitted each year), an outstanding high school record and test scores are the most important factors in freshman admission. Transfer students with very strong academic records may also apply for admission. Particular attention is paid to the essays submitted with the Honors College Application.
To be considered for the Honors College, complete the Common Application, making sure to answer “Yes” to the Honors College question located in the Academics Section of the University Questions and complete the additional required writing supplement.
