Retrievers play just as hard as they study. Whether you’re interested in cheering on one UMBC’s Division I teams, participating in one of our numerous club sports teams, or simply taking a walk-in yoga class with friends, you’ll find plenty to do on campus. Plus, our newly opened UMBC Event Center comes equipped with a practice gymnasium, state-of-the-art strength and conditioning and academic centers, and a sports medicine suite.

Cheer On the Dawgs

UMBC sponsors 17 varsity sports at the NCAA Division I level and is a member of the America East Conference. That means plenty of opportunities to show your school spirit – as a member of the Pep Band or one of our dance squads. Join your friends on the sidelines to cheer on the Retrievers at a basketball, soccer or baseball game – admission is free for students! Recreation, Wellness, and Club Sports

Many of our students play club sports such as rugby, Ultimate Frisbee, crew, martial arts, as well as sports offered at the varsity level including lacrosse and soccer. Want to run a 5K or simply hit the weights? UMBC makes it easy to join in, get fit, and make friends in the process.
