UMBC offers four-year pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-physical therapy, pre-podiatry, pre-optometry and pre-veterinary programs and two- to three-year programs in pre-professional studies to prepare students for clinical training in dental hygiene, medical research technology, nursing and pharmacy. UMBC's Office of Academic and Pre-professional Advising has a full-time advisor for students considering health professions to help them select courses, plan their careers and apply to professional schools.
The two- and three-year programs involve completing 60 to 90 credits of required course work and satisfying other requirements. Students then apply to continue their studies at nearby University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) or another institution. UMBC is the largest feeder school for the UMB dental, medical and physical therapy programs.
Pre-medical and pre-dental students have been accepted to many of the nation's top medical and dental schools, including Columbia University, Cornell University, Duke University, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, University of California San Francisco, University of Pennsylvania and Yale University.
