Projected Costs

Cited by the Princeton Review as “one of the best value undergraduate institutions” in the country, and a “Best Value College” by Kiplinger and the selective Fiske Guide to Colleges, UMBC offers a range of financial aid and payment options to make it possible for students of all backgrounds to benefit from an outstanding education.

Because UMBC receives financial support from the State of Maryland, residents of Maryland have lower tuition costs than out-of-state students. The cost of room and board varies depending upon a student’s choice of residence hall or apartment and meal plan.

Estimated Costs (2019-2020)

Tuition and fees: $12,028
Room and board: $12,350
Total projected cost per year: $24,378

Out-of-State Students

Room and board: $12,350
Total projected cost per year: $40,012

Part-time Students (per credit hour)

For newly admitted undergraduate students temporarily classified as out-of-state (in accordance with the USM Board of Regents’ policy) due to missing information on the residency section of your Undergraduate Admissions Application, please complete the residency form and return to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation as soon as possible prior to enrollment.

In addition to the costs listed above, students should budget around $1,500 per year for additional expenses such as books and transportation. Costs are subject to change with Board of Regents approval.
