Computer Science
In this ABET-accredited program, you’ll prepare for a career in areas like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, game design, forensic analysis, data science, and more.
Psychology
We’ll help you build the analytic and interpersonal skills you need for a career in psychology, social services, education, or business.
History
With an emphasis on international historical perspectives, our students explore how different peoples have built their worlds and made sense of them over time.
Social Work
We teach social work professionals generalist practices that serve individuals, families, groups, and communities through hands-on field placement and community outreach.
Mechanical Engineering
We combine the theory of a traditional life science degree with hands-on, real-world applications of the process for turning scientific discoveries into real life-saving solutions.
Translational Life Science Technology (TLST)
In this ABET-accredited program, you’ll prepare for a career in areas like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, game design, forensic analysis, data science, and more.
Political Science
Our students become part of the “business” of the Washington metropolitan area, with courses focused on pre-law, public policy, and international affairs.
1:1 Pre-Transfer Advising
Make an appointment with a UMBC-Shady Grove pre-transfer advisor to determine the transferability of previous coursework and develop an academic plan of action for transfer!

Transfer Student Alliance

Our Transfer Student Alliance (TSA) is a member benefit program for students intending to complete an associate degree at a Maryland community college prior to transferring to UMBC.
Studying at Montgomery College?
Raptor to Retriever (R2R) is a transfer access program designed to streamline the transfer process between Montgomery College and UMBC-Shady Grove. The program offers students a structured pathway for attaining an associate degree and then a baccalaureate degree. Coupled with the Transfer Student Alliance (TSA) member benefits, it’s a fantastic way for transfer students to earn a UMBC degree in the least amount of time and for the lowest cost.
